When Taipei, the city, entered the "post-industrialized age," the basic structures of "a city" changed forcedly. “Events” happening in the city are no longer predictable: in terms of location and dislocation. However, the essence of the quality of architecture entities remains the same. Owing to the rapid pace of the advancement of the society, including economy, politics, education, etc, so complicated and speedy, that the city gradually forms some traces of growth. The borderlines under the expansion of the city are actually some kind of “fragments,” which approach an attitude of collecting. In Taipei city, people make those fragments as a habitation of their own, thus the changes of some space is a “tolerable assertion.” These marginal and extremely exaggerated “city experiences” slowly spread out in every corner of the city---complicated and overlapping. With the construction of the functions of a city, many wandering experiences and spatial territory become the starting point of the “vague city experience.”With the reimplantation of the issue of “janus,” we hope to present a new “wandering experience” in Taipei the base. By discussing the double traits of the margins of a city so that we could think both positively and negatively over the city space. Indirectly such discussion would make architecture, the natural mechanism, contradictory. Taipei city has produced many different ideas on architecture spaces. No matter with what angle we look, the systems city inhabitants live and their city experiences have evoked many agreements or contradiction. The remaining space of the city is still a majority, and it is a beginning of another growth, which we have the chance to rebuild. |
