This project is based on the research of Shihuo Monthly Some analyses about the development and the position of Shihuo Monthly and Taiwanese historical research in recent 50 years are demonstrated in this report. Shihuo Monthly was republished in April 1971 and ceased in August 1988. From the beginning of the republishing, to advocate the integration of history and social science had clearly been the objective of the publication, and the trend that doing historical research with social science had eventually led Taiwanese historical research to a different direction. In the progress, Shihuo Monthly played an important key role to pass on the research approach, and gradually brought Taiwanese historical research to a whole new world. To discuss this issue, it is necessary to connect the related people, culture and generation all together, and investigate the complicated relationship between them in order to find a fine position for this publication. Therefore, I focused on the history and changes of the publishing history of Shihuo Monthly, and analyzed the writers and contents of the essays, meanwhile, compared other contemporary publications, theories, and the current of thought to explain the relationships between Shihuo Monthly and other Taiwanese historical research in recent 50 years. First, an observation about the editors involved in each stage and the characteristics of the publication built by collecting and studying examples, related fields and issues, as well as the supports and criticisms from contemporary historical researchers was conducted To investigate the influence on Taiwanese historical research development caused by the current of the Western historical though, the theories of social science and research approaches which introduced by Shihuo Monthly was the next step, in the meantime, a comparison between the contemporary and late essays published in historical publications was made to understand the trend of the Western historical research development. To clarify and analyze the period of Shihuo Monthly and the progress of historical elite training, may provide a different way of thinking for Taiwanese historical research, and accordingly motivate people to rethink the direction of Taiwanese historical research.
