Nowadays, the worldwide oil supply is short of demand for both economy and industry. In the case of oil field unavailable on land, oil company turn to explore subsea for new oil field and obtain more petroleum. For this reason, the amount of oil platforms is increasing. At present the whole world approximately has 6000 offshore platforms. Oil company start to construct new oil rig when oil or gas is ran out. The disposal of redundant sea oil and gas installations must be dismantled. After that, partial modules may be re-used again, but what about other parts? Has it become a huge structure or ruins stand in the sea, or substantial amount of waste dumped? This specific industrial structure of offshore platform is not only a machine but also a construction. Is there any possibility of dismantled offshore platforms being re-used when their missions were completed? This thesis design is an attempt to discuss the relation between assemblage and spatiality of this kind of structure, while creating dialogue with this structure by using architectural design strategies, to create a new building type with contemporary spirit. This thesis is an outcome of the transformation of oil platform through architectural design by analyzing oil platform’s special constructive behavior, assemblage and internal space. It also provides a different thinking of significance for construction of sea installations by transferring marine offshore platform to land.In the situation of promoting tourism by National Marine Science and Technology Museum program, I try to reconstruct and enhance this program by inserting abandoned oil platform into Batouz harbor in Keelung. My design strategy is to reprogram oil platform by corresponding to its new urban context and the original museum program, thus turns the abandoned oil platform into a new building type. This thesis offers a new spatial experience and thinking on disposal of decommissioning oil platform with a fresh perspective.
