Abstract:	四十年冬，余從說文入手，習古文字音韻之學，自一字至於亥字，先書其篆籀古文，繼解，更而登錄段注中切語及古韻部，並合以先師董同龢先生二十二部古韻名。回顧其事歷四十寒暑矣。其間因治學之需，檢讀是書，不能估其次數。故雖駑下之資，終亦略有教臺大期間，嘗一為諸生導讀；去秋以來，復與諸生研習此書於東海中研所。因思歲月衰且至，一得之愚，書以就教於並世方家，蓋其時矣。於是為說文讀記，期以一年蕆事篇。昔年撰中國文字學，間述說文中字為例，以其散見於書中，雖附索引，不易察及，今隨說作概略說明，詳則仍見原書。凡文中稱中國文字學者，即小作也。徵引各家言，見於說文金文詁林及甲骨文字集釋者，即依三書轉錄。說文詁林據原書剪貼影印，直與原書等；其亦因用書之不便，非有疑慮，不一一取原書校覈也。　　　　　This article discusses the problems of the forms, sounds and meanings of the Chinese characters as included in the first three chapters of the Shuo-Wen.
