Abstract:	This letter presents the synthesis and evaluation of two novel triketone-containing acidichromic colorants. Analysis results indicate that both prepared triketone-containing compounds undergo two distinct and reversible color changes under both strongly acidic and basic conditions. Thus, a pH sensitive triketone functional group is introduced for the first time to design and synthesize acidichromic colorants. ? 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
