Koelreuteria formosana changes along the seasons with a high ornamental value in terms of the flowers and the fruits. It is commonly planted at the parks, schools, pedestrians, etc. and known as well as adored by the Taiwanese people. As the number of planting is quite large, people from different places have suggested the appearance of a large amount of Leptorcoris augur causing troubles and even panic to the neighbors as they fly around or break into the residences. Many of the residents have requested to remove the Taiwanese Rain Tree and to spray pesticide when there is a large amount of Leptorcoris augur as to solve the problem; however, many environmentalists have rejected the proposal and cause the controversy for which the authorities cannot do anything for it yet. Thus, this study aims to discuss the problems and the improvement methods caused by the Koelreuteria formosana, including the treatment to the existing plantations as well as the improvement methods when there is a large amount of Leptorcoris augur. The result shows that the Leptorcoris augur generally appear near Koelreuteria formosana or gather at the sidewalk and as the distance between the trees and the buildings are shorter, the phenomenon of the Leptorcoris augur at the residents would actually cause public’s disgust and fear. Most of the subjects opted to leave the room if Leptorcoris augur are found and most of the public would take them back near the Koelreuteria formosana. The degree of acceptance of the Leptorcoris augur and the degree of disgust and fear as well as the reactions towards them are significantly correlated. The higher the degree of acceptance and adoration towards the Leptorcoris augur, the lower the degree of disgust and fear would it be towards the Leptorcoris augur. They would not have any special reactions towards the appearance of the Leptorcoris augur and they wish to maintain the current condition for the treatment of the Koelreuteria formosana mainly because they do not want to waste the taxes and because the trees would provide a shading area during the summer seasons. However, most of the public opinion wishes to remove the Koelreuteria formosana and change the tree species, not only because of the Leptorcoris augur problem, but also of the flowers, leaves, fruits and the tree sap. They know that the trees have their own features during the four seasons, yet this may also represent different problems during different seasons. Thus, they wish to change the plantation into a less controversial species or even refuse to have other plantations. The improvement methods for the appearance of the Leptorcoris augur also vary depending on the regions, and they are mostly related with the planning of the sidewalks. Where the trees are closer to the buildings, the degree of trouble is higher, so the subjects hoped to have regular spraying of pesticide and cleaning of the environment as to reduce the number of Leptorcoris augur and the chances for them to hide. Where the sidewalks are wider, the influence of the Leptorcoris augur to the subjects are smaller, so the subjects believe that there is no need to treat the issue and the ecological balance should be maintained. Through this study’s results, the subjects generally wish to solve the problem caused by the Koelreuteria formosana and the Leptorcoris augur without damaging the ecology. Therefore, it is suggested to the authorities to have a careful planning of the sidewalks and the species of plantation. Plantations should be avoided in front of the buildings. Koelreuteria formosana shall be planted in larger green areas as to avoid close contact with the buildings. In terms of the breeding seasons of the Leptorcoris augur, environmental cleaning shall be stressed as to reduce the number of the bugs and their refugees which would then reduce the problems caused by them.
