In Takayama City (Gifu Prefecture), we surveyed a commercial pedestrian space which is composed by private area and public area. The pedestrian space is covered with a continuative roof and has a same surface of pavement-pattern, these parts make its identity and extent. In response to shops' business hours, there are various temporary elements in the pedestrian space by the shopping street's rule. Owing to the rules, a wide pedestrian space is kept and the pedestrians are able to walk with seeing merchandise the shop is selling. In this point, the questionnaire inquiry showed that the pedestrians viewed them positively. This is a good example of collaboration planning design of a commercial pedestrian space with public administration and shop owners, it supports various kinds of activities beyond peoples' different situations and promotes peoples' communication. This indicates an idea to materialize a revitalization of a commercial street.
