Contemporary artists are getting familiar to employ the new composite materials, special mode of labor or digital media in their creative works. The technology will further become an interactive partner for artist’s creation and presentation. The artist will become an artineer. The art is normally not limited as a representation of the nature or phenomenon. The artist reconstructs a critical logic of sign from the nature and phenomenon to develop his (or her) performance. Therefore the artist is also a meta-artist. Because the art speaks for a specific people or community, a consistent cultural matrix which keeps being inclusive constitutes the field of creation for artist. He (or she) is then a matrixist.
Especially when confronted with the Asian world of life, ‘engineer’, ‘meta-’ and ‘culture’ should be the very positions and fulcra for the contemporary and future artists in this region to maneuver to re-open the eye of Asia Through the new artistic form, these artists may call forth a new way of seeing the living reality in Asia and the world, and may evoke the energy of identity for the new civilization.
The works of Daniel Lee, Hsu Bing and Lee Zeng-cheng are shown as examples to demonstrate the particularities of the Asian way of seeing---‘mutual inclusion of the one and the multiple’. And such an Asian way of seeing will be facilitated with a critical potential on the cultural issues for the contemporary world reality.
