After the 921 earthquake, the Ministry of Education has allocated budgets for school building seismic retrofit, to secure safety of teachers and students. From 2017 to 2019, there are 275 public junior high schools and elementary schools carrying-out school building seismic retrofit in Taichung. Many schools’ general affairs directors have been changed frequently, and a large number of directors are novice. This study is aimed to explore the difficulties and attitude of those novice directors, in order to provide suggestions for improvement. This study adopts the qualitative research method, and invites 5 novice general affairs directors as participants. Data are collected through semi-structural interviews. It is found that all 5 participants have encountered many difficulties that they have never experienced before. They also possess traits of growth mindset which help they to solve problems step by step. It is suggested that if novice directors are willing to adjust their mindset, embrace the challenges, keep learning and seek for assistance from experienced colleagues, school building seismic retrofit projects may be completed smoothly.
