    Abstract: From Old to New 中區過去台中市的發源地,市街所在地,加以公共機關多集於此,使其儼然成為台中的精神中心,逐漸隨著舊市區頹圮老舊,人口老化等問題,而趨於沒落。二市場絕無僅有的三翼造型是日據時期的建築、街屋衡跨日據時期至民國初期、以及清末節點路徑,使得她在市場建築中擁有重要的地位與歷史價值。在跨越將近一世紀的時間之後,一個曾經輝煌過的空間現今被埋沒在時間的沉積之中,讓人逐漸忘記她的存在與價值。 第二市場需要質變,第二市場跨越時空將近90年來到現代,因應都市重心的轉移與傳統市場大環境的變化。她的市場機能必須面臨質變與新機能的加入才能繼續延續其生命。我們藉由觀察都市現象,百貨公司由從前販賣生活的物品逐漸轉變為販賣娛樂休閒的體驗;其中健身中心也如雨後春筍般的急速成長,我們了解到當代消費價值主流轉變為追求健康、美、與娛樂休閒的體驗。因此,我們再處理的策略上將第二市場由從前是販賣生活物品的市場轉型為當代消費價值主流追求健康、美、與娛樂休閒的體驗。 在都市上,第二市場可視為中區的入口門戶以及錨定點第二市場在中區裡佔有整塊完整的街廓,三面分別面臨中區重要道路中正路、中山路與三民路。並且是在中區98%的開發密度下,為公部門最後能夠大操作的公共空間。擁有的開放空間使之可以成為重要中區重要的錨定點空間;緊鄰的興中停車場與興中轉運站,使得定第二市場在區位上也將扮演中區的入口門戶。 再加上中區內亦有許多的文物古蹟、歷史資產,再加上中區適宜步行的尺度,中區有其獨特的魅力。所以中區可以視為平面式的百貨公司、第二市場便是為其入口大廳集客要素與錨定點。「第二市場」在城市的定位與機能質變,成為一個展現當代消費價值觀的場所,集合文藝、生活、流行、建築與商業的新消費組合體,並且以此作為展現城市魅力與都市更新的一個契機。
    Abstract From Old to New The Central District is the origin place of the Taichung city, where the city government and lots of public organization locate, and becomes the spiritual center of Taichung. However, several problems, such as the obsolescence of the old urban district and the aging of population, have led to the decline of Taichung Central District.The Second Market has the unique Y-shape built in the period occupied by Japan, the shop-house built from the period occupied by Japan to the early period of the Republic of China, and the node of the five ways in the Ching dynasty. What mentioned above have contributed the important status and the historical value to The Second Market among the market architecture. About a century later, the once magnificent space has been buried under the deposition of time, which has made people forget its existence and value gradually. The program of the Second Market has to be transform. By observing the metropolis phenomena, including what the department stores sell today, which are not the goods for living but the experience of the entertainment, and the rapid growth number of the fitness center, we know the contemporary consuming mainstream value is to pursue health, beauty, and the leisure experience.So, our strategy is the Second Market, which mainly sold the goods for living in the past, sells what the mainstream of the contemporary consuming value pursue today, including health, beauty, and the leisure experience. About the city, The Second Market is viewed as the gate and anchor of the Central District The Second Market occupy the whole block and face the tree important roads- Thong-Zheng Rd., Thaong-Shan Rd., and San-Ming Rd. Under the 98% development density of the Central District, it’s the only one block of public space that the city government could operate. The open space could be the important anchor in the Central District. The close neighborhoods, Shing-Chung parking lot and Shing-Chung transfer post, make the Second Market become the entrance gateway of the Central District. Moreover, there are a lot of cultural relics and historical places in this district, which is good for people to take a walk. All of these make The Central District a unique and charming place. So that the Central District is viewed as a plane department store, and the Second Market is the lobby, anchor to gather people for the department store. The role in the city and programming transform of the Second Market are becoming a place to display the mainstream of the contemporary consuming value. A new consumption composite system of the culture、life、fashion、architecture and commerce is the key to show the city fascination and the urban renewal.
