Abstract The main concern of this thesis is to operate a design of generative mesh and form generation in architectural clustering by using wire-frame and graphic analysis in the digital environment. In order to explore the operation of generative mesh, I develop one design with two parts of architectural form and city landscape through establishing a set of parameter in the digital environment and using three fundamental elements--city, base and building. After reducing the multiple elements of city space, the basic form of my experimental design is emerged. On this basis, I explore the new form generation and abrogate the issue of reforming existing environment. The thesis consists of four parts. PART 1: Research Purpose & Literature Review In PART 1, I review the introduction and concepts of wire-frame environment and entire city space. On this basis, I seek and elaborate the mechanism of form generation in entire city mesh frame. PART 2: Methodology & Issues Further, I construct the research with the development of "Frame in the Classic Architecture", "Mesh", the "Surface Derivative of the Time Curve" and "the Origin of Matter Frame, Represent and Free Form". The issues concerning space implication, parameter development and continuous form generation are also brought out in PART 2. All these concepts strengthen the relation between surface, skin and interface in architecture as well. PART 3: Operational Procedure Establishment--Wire-Frame in Generative Mesh "Clusterig", "tracing", "blurring", and "weaving" are four operational methods in this research. They are developed from the concepts of "duality", "hierarchy" and "clustering", and applied as the basic frame for generative mesh. Through the four operational methods, I explain the constructing procedure and discuss the finding. PART 4: Experimental Design, Operation and Discussion The experimental design is composed with two parts. The first part starts from the mesh intervention in the existing building. I elucidate the corresponding relations, and develop a new form integrating with the old environment. The second part attempts to operate the design form based on the relations of wire mesh, existing building, and city landscape. The premise of the design operation is defining the "earth surface" as the interface of architecture form, and taking the wire-frame as a fundamental form. The experimental result shows that the invisible space turns out a concrete curving space under the concept of wire-frame. It uncovers the possibility/availability to do the real-time operation in the digital environment, and brings out the form-generation issue as well. |
