    Abstract: 近年來超寬頻 (UWB) 無線通訊因具備低成本、低消耗功率、極高的傳輸速率以及低干擾等優點,而受到業界與學術界的高度矚目。雖然超寬頻無線通訊具有很多優點,但也衍生出一些問題,像是同步、通道估測與天線設計等問題。到目前為止,我們已經對UWB 的同步方法,持續研究了一段時間,也獲得了一些初步的成果。因此,我們將藉本計畫,針對同步問題做進一步的探討與研究。在第一年(96.8~97.7),我們將針對我們目前已經完成的初步研究成果,繼續進行更完整的探討,並完成電腦模擬與理論分析。我們目前所提出的同步方法可以縮小搜尋範圍 (Search region)。然而,由於採用並列搜尋的架構,我們目前提出的架構,確實存在硬體複雜度太高的缺點。所以,我們將針對硬體複雜度太高的問題,提出一些縮減硬體複雜度的改良方法。第二年(97.7~98.7),我們將再進一步的提出縮短達到同步花費時間的方法。由目前的一些研究成果,我們發現可以藉由一些訊號延遲的處理,將各分支上的輸出訊號集中在符號邊界時間上輸出。如此,我們便可以由輸出的訊號上升或下降的轉態點,直接判斷出符號邊界的時間點。我們預期可以將同步時間縮短到一個符號時間以內。
    Over recent years, ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication has received significant attention from industry and academia due to its benefits including low cost, low power consumption, very high data rate and higher interference immunity. Although it has lots of advantages, it also brings about some derivative issues, for instance, the issues of synchronization, channel estimation and antenna design, etc. Here, we will focus on the synchronization issue for further discussions and researches. In the first year, we plan to do some studies to make our current research more complete. Based on the architecture of our proposed UWB receiver, the search region is limited to a frame duration. Although, owing to the parallel search mechanism, it can appreciably reduce the total search time for the synchronization process. However, our proposed UWB receiver really needs higher circuit complexity. Therefore, we will propose some improvement versions based on current researches. In the second year, we will focus on how to reduce the total search time based on current researches. After analyzing the outputs from each branch in time domain, we expect that the outputs of each branch can be combined together to be output while a symbol boundary is arrived. Then, we can derive the symbol boundaries from observing the combined output directly. We believe that the total search time can be reduced to within a symbol duration.
