On the street, it is the best way to learn the original local culture. Residents along the street formed the street space according to their own functional requirement and aesthetics perception in the past. However, the wave of functionalism made governments and professionals took place that space of street is no longer wholly belonging to local residents. The street space from considerations of urban function replaced the one which once totally concerned with local life. The streets were becoming unlivable gradually. Regarding such problem, street space rebuilding following the tide of urbanism was rising. The major issue here is proving comfortable walking environment. Taiwan had started a lot of rebuilding projects, and it was just beginning. Taiwan started a lot of rebuilding projects, which was just a beginning. But, most of the relative researches here were all about creating the amenity of pedestrian environment and few were concerned about interaction between the private interior space of street residents and public exterior space of street. Based on the methodology of Grounded Theory, this article was revealing long term interaction between private space of residents and public space of street, analyzing the phenomenon contributed by the trends of street space rebuilding, and further, finding the causes of the phenomenon and the meaning it represented, to examine the policy of rebuilding street space in Taiwan. Based on the methodology of Ground Theory, This article analyzed the processes of the long term interaction between the private space of residents and public space of streets in the space of urban commercial streets, and reviewed the phenomenon contributed by the trends of street space rebuilding and, further, found the causes of the phenomenon and the meaning it represented, introducing to examine the policy of rebuilding street space in Taiwan. The article showed that after the space of street was opened to the residents, they would use four ways: turning, invading, pillaging, filling, to modify the space of street to meet their functional requirement and aesthetic perception. That would form various spaces and make public domain into private, causing disorder. The article suggested that space of street as a public space shared by local residents and urban citizens, the planning and designing of pedestrian street must keep the behavior of local residents in mind, and clarify the boundary of public domain to ensure the rights of other street users.
